Welcome to Abertay sports clubs
The University of Abertay Dundee is one of the newest and most innovative universities in the UK. We are extremely proud of our national and international successes in all areas of the University. As part of its commitment to the development of excellence, UAD has chosen to support and develop sport at all levels.
We currently have 18 sports club here at Abertay ranging from traditional teams sports such as football and rugby to individual sports such as boxing and snowsports. For contact details for all the current sports clubs, see the Sports Development Officer or contact the clubs directly. Each club has a club specific email address - club@abertay.ac.uk, for example rugby or women's football.
Men's Football

Men's Football provided the highlight of the year in 2009-10 by beating Dundee University in the quarter-finals of the SUS Conference Cup on their patch. A solid league campaign and a losing cup semi-final were excellent results in a transition year and much is expected of the club's two teams in 2010-2011.

Women's Football

Traditionally one of the strongest clubs at Abertay, Women's Football are going through a period of rebuilding. However, the club's targets this year of promotion back to the top tier of University Football and winning the SUS Conference Cup demonstrate the talent and ambition within the squad for 2010-11.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball are one of Abertay's most successful clubs in University and local league competition. Narrowly pipped to the University and Tayside and Fife league titles, Abertay surrendered a winning position in the SUS Conference Cup Final in 2009-10 but are excited by the potential of the squad for the new academic year.

Women's Basketball
Like the Men's squad, Women's Basketball are enjoying a period of real strength. Promoted in 2008-09, Abertay just lost out on consecutive league titles by finishing second and were proud semi-finalists in the SUS Conference Cup. In the Basketball Tayside and Fife league Abertay finished a close second.

Badminton
The Abertay Badminton club competes in the SUS University leagues and Conference Cup and the Dundee Area Badminton Association competitions. The club welcomes beginners, recreational club players right up to the elite who can be supported through the University's Elite Athlete Development Programme.

Men's Hockey

Men's Hockey completed the quartet of SUS Conference Cup semi-finalists in 2009-2010 and are enthusiastic about building on the success for next year. Training and playing at the DISC, any new members are welcome to come along and be part of the club. This year the men are aiming for promotion into the 2
nd division so come along and be apart of the team.
Fees for hockey this year will be £30.

Women's Hockey
Making use of the DISC for training and playing, Women's Hockey is a vibrant and friendly club who have counted Scotland and GB international players as members in the past. With the ladies numbers growing we have introduced a 2
nd team this season. The ladies are also aiming for promotion from the 4th division. The club is keen to support any new members regardless of playing standard or experience, come along and get involved.
Fees for hockey this year will be £30.

Golf
The University Golf programme provides opportunity for Individual and Team Competition over the course of the academic year including a chance to play on some of Scotland's fantastic golf courses. If you have a single-figure handicap the club would be delighted to hear from you to get you playing golf for Abertay.

Rugby

A strong league and cup campaign within University competition saw a number of Abertay students on the fringes of SUS Representative sides in Fifteens and Sevens. Men's Rugby benefit from a link with Morgan FP Rugby Club, themselves a SRU National League side, in terms of player sharing, equipment and facilities.

Netball
The Netball girls have already begun pre-season training as they continue to build on last year's successes. The club is open to all standards of player so whether you have played for years or never stepped on to the court get in touch with the club and get involved.

Boxing
The Abertay Boxing Club has grown out of the Dundee University club and now hosts two British and Irish University Champions. Open to all levels of experience and expertise the Boxing club offers the opportunity to simply get into the gym and get fit while also supporting and developing those interested in competitive amateur boxing.

Tennis
Tennis is currently being resurrected at Abertay with a group of students forging a relationship with West End Tennis Club. The club has been rebuilt to the extent that it competed in the Annual Tay Games Varsity Challenge between the Universities of Dundee and Abertay and hopes are high for a successful 2010-11.

Gaelic Football (Men's)
Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) compete strongly within University competition and thoroughly enjoy the annual trip to Birmingham for the GAA British Championships in February. Whether you are an experienced campaigner or you've never tried it before the GAA club will make you feel very much at home.

Karate
Training in the University twice a week, the Karate club is open to anyone who has an interest in the fitness, discipline or competition aspects of Karate. Come along to a training session or get in touch with the club in advance if you have any questions.
Snowsports
Plans are already underway for the annual trip in early in January to one of France's top resorts while regular trips in Scotland on both dry slopes and snow give beginners and experienced skiers and snowboarders the chance to improve and make new friends all at the same time.

Volleyball
Volleyball is a relatively new sport at Abertay but progress can be measured with reference to Abertay's win over Dundee - traditionally very strong Volleyballers - in the Annual Varsity Challenge. Always on the lookout for new talent or experienced players, Volleyball will be participating in local league and SUS University competition in 2010-11.
Cricket
After a number of years of inactivity there is a group of students keen to resurrect the Abertay Cricket Club. If you have any interest in playing cricket, or trying it out for the first time, please contact the Sports Office who can put you in touch with the new club committee.
Dance and Cheer
Dance and Cheer have gone from strength to strength and were awarded the Father O'Sullivan Club of the Year trophy for their achievements in 2009-10. These included participating in their first major dance competition in Loughborough, adopting Cheerleading as a distinct discipline and running a series of classes in a range of styles.

Pool
Trophies brought back by the Pool Club this year include the Scottish Universities Pool Association (SUPA) Scottish Masters Team Champions 2010 and the SUPA Cup. With regular league competition in Dundee and various tournaments throughout the year across the UK, the Pool Club is expected to continue to grow and grow.
